We have a bench-to-bedside focus. We believe that we can understand precursor cell lineage progression by deciphering the membrane-associated heparan sulfate (HS) carbohydrate compartment of the stem cell niche. We have developed the tools to analyze the molecular nature of HS interactions, and their remarkable specificities and shown that these sugars have important utility for wound repair. When applied to whole organisms, we can significantly improve wound responses in a number of tissues, including musculoskeletal.
